The Marathon of Marathons Trust (charity number 1133715) has been set up specifically to receive and distribute the funds raised from the runners and participating companies. All the overheads of the charity are being met by Campbell Lutyens, PEI and other sponsors and so every single centime/penny/cent raised will go to the recipient charities. The trustees of the Marathon of Marathon Trust are David Harrel, Graham McDonald, Richard Haldane and John Campbell.
Half of all funds raised will be distributed to UNICEF and the other half will be distributed to a very carefully selected small group of charities with a focus on children under the age of 18. This small group will include two important venture philanthropy organisations with strong connections to the private equity community - The Private Equity Foundation and Impetus Trust. Details of the other selected charities will be given shortly when the selection process is completed.
UNICEF
UNICEF works in 191 countries and is the world's leading organisation working for children and their rights.
UNICEF was born out of a humanitarian response to the children of Europe's desperate need for assistance in a world emerging painfully from the horror of the Second World War. It started, as it often continues today, by providing life-saving food, shelter and medicine to children affected by war and disaster, regardless of race, creed, status, nationality and political belief.
Today UNICEF continues to care for children in emergency situations but its mandate has expanded to include the wider areas of child rights, protection and advocacy.
UNICEF upholds the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and works to hold the international community responsible for their promises to children. By working with local communities, organisations and governments UNICEF strives to make a lasting difference to children's lives across the globe by ensuring the fulfilment of every child’s right to education, to healthcare, to protection, to be treated fairly, and to have a childhood.
UNICEF receives no funding from the United Nations budget. They are funded entirely by voluntary contributions.

It is focused on breaking the cycle of poverty, and works towards this by accelerating the growth of ambitious, innovative charities and social enterprises. Currently Impetus has a portfolio of 14 charities, which are all tackling the root causes of poverty – access to education, skills and jobs. Through providing these organisations with financial support, hands-on management expertise and the deployment of high-calibre experts, Impetus has helped its portfolio charities grow their income by an average of 40% a year (more than ten times the sector average) and increase the number of people they help by an average of 56% a year. Impetus charities helped over 200,000 economically disadvantaged people in the last year.
Impetus has always been committed to helping disadvantaged young people achieve their aspirations and reach their potential. As a result, several organisations in the Impetus portfolio focus on that particular group, such as IntoUniversity, Leap Confronting Conflict, Keyfund Federation and Camfed International. Going forward, Impetus is looking to dedicate even more of its resource to this area.
Impetus strives to make the biggest difference with donors’ money by leveraging donations through its use of pro bono expertise and co-investment. Every £1 of core funding invested in a portfolio charity is more than doubled in value for the charity.
In 2008, Impetus won the top ‘Grantmaking’ award at the Charity Awards.
